How To Make An Apron

There is an issue of urgency: one needs to sew an apron for household duties. It can be either for yourself or for someone as a small gift. There is no need to create complex patterns, if it is a simple model.

Select A Fabric

Combine two fabrics suitable in color. Use a green polka-dot cloth, a polycotton, a cotton with polyester as finishing. A pink checked fabric – the material with "Teflon coating", so-called Teflon cloth- can be the base. It almost does not soil: water rolls off it without soaking. Teflon does not fade, withstands any regimes of washing and cleaning. Any spilled liquid is sluggishly shaked off with a hand. It is much easier to take care of a Teflon tissue than of an ordinary one.

Cutting

The apron itself consists of two rectangle parts: a chest and an overall.

1. Determine the dimensions of cloth for the chest placing a centimeter tape to the breast and setting the needed width and height for you. Scissor out a rectangle, it can be approximately 24 cm wide and 28 cm for height.

2. The dimensions of cloth for the apron: choose the height and the length of the apron on your own. The width should be not less, than the half your waist. It depends on the type of your future apron: a straight or a puffy one (you can also make folds). So take the half of the waist size and add 10-15 cm.

3. Laces

Laces for a belt from finishing cloth: the length can be approximately estimated directly on yourself. This is the total waistline plus the length for laces to make a bow or a knot.

How to determine the width? Think of the width of your laces in a ready workpiece. Multiply by two and add 1 cm from each side on allowances. For instance: you want the 4 cm wide laces. So, you cut the 10 cm wide strips: 4 + 4+ 2 cm for allowances.

One more long band is necessary – it is "a hinge" for the neck. It is measured from the waist upward, behind the neck, and then going back to the waist. Smooth down allowances of each lace throughout the length to the back side.

Chest

The top clothe is sewn with a plain-pressed open seam; a cordon is stitched to the seam and an applique in form of the heart from finishing cloth is stitched as well.

Fold the laces for the chest as it is pictured, the face to the reverse of the chest.

Sew down side seams, iron in different directions.

Double the band, bending allowances inward and sewing on the face. The chest is already made.

An Overall

The bottom of the front body should be also sewn on with a plain-pressed open seam, the cordon is sewn on as it was done on the chest.

Two pockets are sewn down symmetrically on both sides.

In the upper part of the apron in the middle, create a ruffle. What should be the extent of the ruffle? It depends on you and how you cut the tissue. The ruffle can be larger or smaller, but do not make an apron completely straight without ruffles: Thus, it will be a good fit for our rounded tempting poochy tummies.

Raking Together

Rake together all three parts. Pin symmetrically the chest to the face of the apron, aiming from the middle, and the lace belt- above. PAY ATTENTION here: Pin the chest on the face side of the apron, the face side to the face one, thus, the belt will be on the reverse side of the chest by its face side.

Sew all three parts together with a straight stitch.

Further, spread parts, turn up the chest and the belt, iron all allowances up. Always work with an iron while sewing, it must be in readiness and in operating state, steam off each seam. Thus, your work will be neat.

Then, put the chest down to the apron, double the belt, fold back allowances and sew down the belt.

That was done the trick.

Turn up the chest again.

Sew the breast to the belt throughout the length and simultaneously stitch all the belt.

Well, that is the whole process. Iron it one more time, and try it on. Tie laces in a bow behind the back. And one more bow.
