How To Make An Easel

You are fond of painting and drawing and began to think about your own workplace. Where to begin? Of course with the easel! And why not try to make an easel on your own? In this article you will see how to make an easel for painting quickly and easily.

Materials:

• Pine rack 4,5 × 2 cm, 3 m long - 3 pieces.
• Screws × 34 2,9 mm - 6 pcs.
• Screws (16), 5 × 2,7 mm - 4 pcs.
• Nails without head, 2 cm - 4 pcs.
• Furniture screws with washers and "lamb" nuts - 72 × 5,2 mm - 2 pieces.
• Curtain hook, 13 cm - 1 piece.
• Door hinge, 2 cm - 1 piece.
• Glue (for the wood).
• Sandpaper (100-120).
• Emery wheel (100-120) - 1 pc.

Instruments:

• Sander;
• Jigsaws;
• Hacksaw (for the wood);
• A pair of construction gloves;
• Meter and ruler;
• Crosshead screwdriver;
• A building pencil;
• A hammer;
• A drill with borers 6 and 8 mm;
• Electric screwdriver.

How To Make An Easel

Saw the bars to the following sizes:

1 pcs. - 146 cm;
1 pcs. - 154 cm;
2 pcs. - 168 cm;
1 pcs. - 39 cm;
1 pcs. - 53 cm.

Sand the bars with electric sander and process the ends with sandpaper. The pine can be used. It has a lot of knots, so you need to choose the appropriate racks. The pine "exfoliates" during manual processing, so you need to use the electric tool. The main advantage of this type of wood is a low cost of material.

Once all the bars are processed, begin to gather the easel frame. Do this accurately and precisely, using the tiled floor: angles between the tiles serve as a guide to align the rails.

The assembly starts from the central rail - 146 cm, put it parallel to the seam on the tile floor. If you cannot use the tiled floor, you can draw a straight line on an ordinary floor or make a temporary line using the tape. You will get the axis of your future easel, and the assembly will move in relation to it.

Put two pillars 168 cm each, overlap the slats - 39 and 53 cm. To fasten the rails together, pre-drill the holes with a borer of d = 6mm. Then, cover the joints with a glue for the wood and fix the racks with respect to each other. The joints are fastened by screws.

Attach the back support (154 cm) to the rear rail (39 cm) in the middle. Adjust it by the length. You can also use a borer with d = 6 mm.

Device of the shelf for the sub frame:

You need the casing 5 cm wide, 60 cm long - 3 pieces in total. Make two holes at a distance of 15 cm from the edge using the borer with d = 8 mm.

Put 2 straps together at an angle of 90 degrees using a hammer and nails, so that they create a shelf. The rear bracket will be the holder of this shelf.

Let the glue become dry. On the next day, finish the assembly of the easel: put it in a horizontal position, install a shelf for the sub frame. Adjust its height. Fix the hinged hook that secures the rear support. You can choose clear varnish, stain or paint, as you wish. Your easel is ready!
