In order to cook pears in caramel many kinds of pears will do, including the ones that are grown during winter. However, you’d better not choose soft kinds of pears that are grown during autumn for caramelizing. These sweet pears are tasty by themselves, you don’t have to additionally cook them in any way.
Step 1. Peel of the pears and take out their cores. Slice them in halves.
Step 2. Put sugar on a cold pan and heat it upon a low fire till the sugar completely melts and turns into caramel. Add bits of butter and mix everything thoroughly so that the butter melts completely.
Step 3. Put the pears on the pan with their cut side down and, carefully, pour hot water there.
Step 4. Boil the pears in the syrup for 5 minutes. You do it for both sides. The sauce should get thick. Once the pears get softer, take them off the fire and cool them down till the room temperature.
Step 5. Serve the pears with a ball of vanilla ice-cream and a twig of mint.
