How To Make Elf Ears

Every elf costume is not complete without specially pointed ears. You can go out and buy latex ears in the store, but usually all these crafts do not fit into the shape of your ear or under the color of your skin. During our master class you will be able to create the elf ears of individual shape and color, which will perfectly suit you.

You will need:

  • Clay
  • PVA glue in a sufficient amount
  • Any fat cream (e.g. for children)
  • Newspaper
  • Bright colored napkins
  • Acrylic primer
  • Tempera paints

Let us make the ears.

Before starting to work, you need to measure your own ears, so "prosthesis" will be a little bit bigger, otherwise you will not feel comfortable wearing it.

After this, the plasticine form must be properly covered with cream (plasticine will easily unglue from the paper), and the first layer of the newspaper should be put on it. Tear the newspaper into small pieces glue each of them. Make it flat and smooth. Cover this layer with glue and put the tissues on it (tear it the same way as you have done with the newspaper).

Then alternate the layers of napkins and the newspaper. It is necessary for making sure that the layers are easy to find and count. To avoid confusion, you can even write the number on each of the layers. 9 layers will be enough (i.e. newspaper, then napkin, a newspaper again, etc.).

Out the ready elf ears on the battery to dry. At the same time the plasticine will be soft, so it will be easier to remove it. To do it, make a cut on the wrong side:

Fold the edges and pick out the plasticine. Cut out the holes for the ears.

Here is what you should have at this stage. It is recommended to try the ears before painting in order to fix or trim the holes.

Now, prime the elf ears with acrylic primer – the paint will become stable.

The prime will dry for hour or two. Then, paint the ears in the desired color using tempera paints.

To make the ears look more bold, paint deeper places in a dark color, so you emphasize them.

The elf ears are ready!
