How To Knit A Beret

Romantic and a bit sentimental beret knitted on your own, will become your favorite accessory in spring and autumn, when the soul requires tenderness particularly strongly. This is a cozy and lightweight cap, which protects its owner from the cold and wind, and it is a stylish addition to one`s demi- season attire, which emphasizes one`s unique femininity. Upon closer look, you need this headwear! Moreover, it is easy to knit.

Required materials:

  • 60 g of white color threads of 50% of wool and of 50 % of acryl;
  • needles № 2,5, № 4,5;
  • crochet № 2,5.

Knit everything circle-wise. Start with the rib. Make 128 stitches with the help of needles № 2,5 (64 stitches by each needle) and knit a rib 1x1 (1 knit stitch, 1 purl) in 8 rows (2 cm).

Further, make only knit stitches and add 24 stitches evenly. You should get 152 stitches (76 on each needle).

Then, take needles № 4,5 and make 8 cm of knit stitches as well.

Within 10 cm from the knitting start, split the beret on 8 even parts (each part should contain 19 stitches).

To do this, make 2 stitches after each 18 stitches instead of knit stitch back loop only. This stitch received after making two instead of the knit stitch back loop only will be the mark for your 8 parts. You can mark parts by pins. This stitch is marked on the photo by black lines. Make the next row in knit stitches too.

Now make a uniform reduction in each part, thus, you get 8 ribs (like zigzag). Reductions are done through a row (1 row is reduced, the next row is made of knit stitches) and do the same all the way to the end of the knitting.

1 row. Make each part of knit stitches to form a rib (zigzag) — the last stitch of each part make instead of the knit stitch back loop only with the stitch made before from 2 stitches knitted together. Do the same all the way to the end of each row.

2 row. Make it only of knit stitches.

3 row. Make each part of knit stitches, and to make a rib (zigzag), make instead of the knit stitch back loop only of the stitch made before from 2 stitches knitted together with the first stitch of each part. Keep on the same scheme.

4 row. Make it only of knit stitches. You should get 8 ribs (zigzags). The quantity of stitches in each part decreases in number.

Make reduction from the 1st until the 4th row in order to get 16 stitches (8 stitches on each needle).

The last row- make only double stitches instead of knit stitches. You should get 8 stitches (4 stitches on each needle). Pass the thread through them and tie it up. Do not cut off the thread.

Make a loop. Make 8 chain stitches with the help of crochet № 2,5. Then, make one row of single crochets and connect at the bottom.

You can make it without a loop, as you like. That`s all of it! Your beret is made.
