Carved briar wood root driftwood sculpture Materials used: Briar wood root (Tree heath) Height: 105mm (4.13") Width: 60mm (2.36") Length: 190mm (7.48") Weight: 340g For this sculpture making none tree has been cut. Long time ago these trees were in fire and then several rains washed out remnants of wood roots to the rivers. By river it got its way to the sea. Pieces of wild trees wood were floating in the sea for years and then washed ashore where I'm finding and collecting it for carving. Hot spanish sun rays gave to this wood its beautiful exotic colors and texture. These trees grows in very harsh conditions on rocky flint rich mountains and because it grows very slowly wood becomes extremely hard and firm. Because of its very durable and heat resistant characteristics this type of wood is also used for smoking pipes crafting. I've carved this pendant using only hand instruments as axe, chisels, knives and without any wood processing machines. My carving is not finished (not coated) but naturally polished.
