10 DIY Swings for kids

10 DIY Swings for kids

Since time immemorial, the swing is the most adorable playful piece of furniture. Every playground, every park, and every out-of-town resting place has at least one swing.

The coolest things about homemade swings

Homemade swings have several advantages:

  1. They are unique.

  2. DIY swings are cheap (they are made from the materials at hand).

  3. They are suitable (you make a swing that fits your garden or yard).

The diversity of swings to create at home

So, let us see how to make a swing depending on the materials you have.

The wooden swing. It is the most popular kind of swings.

  1. Regular swing. Make two holes in the wooden board and tie it up to the tree branch.

  2. Car-swing. You need several wooden boards, a bunch of nails, some woodworking tools, and a piece of imagination (it is possible to replace it with the schemes from the internet).

Cut out from the wooden board the side parts of the car (use a fret saw and the template prepared in advance). Then, create a firm frame of the future car-swing. Use the nails, boards and the cross-bars to make it strong and reliable. In the end, adjust the comfortable sitting place from where the young driver will enjoy the flying car. You can as well create the flower-, airplane-, star-shaped or any other swings you like.

  1. Terrace swing. Make the spacious wooden platform and join it to the ceiling by using four chains or ropes.

  2. Create a supporting construction: place two tree branches crisscross, making the upper part far smaller than the lower one. Repeat it with the other pair of branches. Connect them with the joist placed in the smaller part of the crosses. Make any swing base you want and join it to the construction with ropes or chains.

The tire swing. This kind of swings is easy to create and many people have old tires at home.

  1. Tie up the tire with the strong rope and join it to the tree branch.

  2. Make four holes in the tire to tie it up horizontally, place and fix a comfortable bench inside the tire, and add some accessories like the wings, tail, and head of the bird or something like that.

  3. Connect two tires with the wooden rails – at least 1/3 of the circuit has to be fulfilled. Tie up each tire with two chains to the tree branch.

The plastic swings. The light but still interesting swings for children.

  1. Make the holes for the legs in the bottom of the plastic box. Join it with the ropes to the tree branch or ceiling.

  2. Use the plastic kid’s chair as a base of swing. Breakaway the chair’s legs and hang it up to the tree.

  3. Hang up with the ropes the plastic bucket (with previously made holes for the legs in the bottom) to the tree.

Finally, decorate DIY kids swing by applying colorful paints.
